What’s the customer buyer journey?

Have you heard of the customers buyer's journey, or funnel?
It's a journey every customer takes when a need is triggered.
A trigger could be internal, eg. hunger, or it could be influenced by an external factor, eg. a billboard.
By understanding our customer's journey, we can create marketing strategies to influence them from aware to purchase.
Here is a break down of the typical stages in the customer buyer's journey.
This journey may look different from brand to brand.
1. Awareness Stage:
  • What It Means: At this stage, the customer identifies a problem or need. They become aware that a solution exists, but they may not know much about it.
2. Consideration Stage:
  • What It Means: In the consideration stage, the customer starts researching and comparing available solutions. They're looking for options that best address their problem or need.
3. Decision Stage:
  • What It Means: Now, the customer is ready to make a decision. They're evaluating specific products or services and comparing prices, features, and reviews.
4. Purchase Stage:
  • What It Means: This is the moment of truth. The customer makes a purchase, becoming a paying customer.
5. Post-Purchase Stage:
  • What It Means: After the purchase, the customer assesses their experience. They might seek additional support or share feedback.
6. Loyalty and Advocacy Stage:
  • What It Means: Happy customers can become your brand advocates. They not only continue to purchase from you but also recommend your products or services to others.
7. Retention Stage:
  • What It Means: Retaining existing customers is often more cost-effective than acquiring new ones. Continuously engage and delight them to build long-term relationships.
When we understand our customers and how they buy, we can map out strategies to influence them on their journey, taking them from awareness to purchase.
